With roots in old Celtic and Scottish customs, handfasting was once associated with making a pledge or betrothal. Today, it has become a wonderfully visual way to represent two people freely choosing to bind their lives together, the tradition behind the familiar expression “tying the knot.”

Your ribbons might reflect your wedding colours, family heritage or the qualities you hope to carry into your marriage. Loved ones can place them one by one, each adding a wish or blessing, before the final knot is tied.
